Weed Science Contest
NEWSS Collegiate Weed Science Contest
The purpose of the Northeastern Collegiate Weed Science Contest is to provide an educational experience from which students in Northeastern universities can broaden their applied skills in weed science through events in weed identification, sprayer calibration, herbicide symptom identification, and in-field problem solving.
The contest provides an opportunity for weed science students to meet and talk with each other, be exposed to researchers from other universities and industry, and apply what they have learned. It is also hoped that the contest will increase the visibility of weed science and intensify the interest level of those participating in the discipline of weed science.
2020 Weed Science Contest Update
The NEWSS Collegiate Weed Science Contest is cancelled for 2020.
Due to Universities being uncertain, or definitely unable to travel this summer, as well as the ongoing and still unknown impacts on the staff and seasonal workload on Syngenta’s Honeywood Research Facility in Plattsville, Ontario, there is no viable reason to continue planning for an event this summer.
We can look forward to 2021, as Syngenta and Guelph University have committed to hosting next year’s contest.
